Speech
Tina BothwellClass fee $3 for
copies.
The Speech module will be 16 weeks and will be offered during the Fall
2007 and Winter 2008 trimesters. A Debate module will be offered in the Spring
2008 trimester. The two modules are separate, and Speech is not a
prerequisite for Debate.
The text for the class will be Sound
Speech, 2002, published by BJU Press. It will be used for two
trimesters. This book gives basic information on communication (audience
analysis, voice, body language, etc); evaluation checklists; worksheets; and
outlines for speeches. Students will read one chapter per week and complete
the worksheets before class. In class we will do some impromptu speaking
exercises. Students will also have assigned dates to complete their prepared
speeches in class. Parents are welcome anytime whether their teen is
speaking in class or not.
Students will be required to prepare and give three
speeches per trimester. Other in-class oral exercises will require much
less preparation. If students are planning to participate in History Day
they can do their informative speech on their history day topic and the same
research can be used for two projects. Also, if students are in a science
class or participating in a science fair, the demonstration speech could be
a science lab.
