Julie Grunzweig and Shelley Sharpe
Class fee $3 per trimester for copies.
Using A Beka World Literature, students will read through
a collection of enjoyable prose and poetry from classics by such authors as
Dickens, Poe, Goethe, Tolstoy, and Hugo. Arranged to illustrate literary
devices such as character development, plot, theme, setting, and imagery,
these selections encourage students to appreciate great literature. The text
concludes with a brief study of excerpts from major ancient and modern works
presented in historical sequence, enabling students to think through the
history of ideas in Christian perspective. Some grammar and vocabulary will
be introduced each week, as well as some essay writing.
A class syllabus will be handed out at the orientation meeting and
homework will be required before the first meeting. There will be an average
of 18 to 22 pages of reading per week. Please make sure that you order the
book in time.
